Compare LED Display Module Types
Compare indoor, outdoor, flexible, GOB, COB and dual-service modules by installation environment, viewing distance, screen shape and maintenance access. These factors will help you choose a suitable LED display module for a new screen or replacement project.
Indoor LED Display Module
Designed for retail stores, meeting rooms, studios and other close-viewing environments. Fine-pitch and high-refresh configurations are available in several standard module sizes for detailed images and consistent indoor viewing.
Outdoor LED Display Module
Made for outdoor advertising and public information screens. High-brightness and IP65-rated options are available to suit different viewing distances, ambient-light levels and installation conditions.
Flexible LED Display Module
The soft PCB allows the module to follow curved surfaces, while magnetic mounting simplifies installation and maintenance. It is suitable for columns, arcs and other creative shapes that are difficult to build with rigid modules.
GOB LED Display Module
A clear protective coating covers the LED surface, helping reduce damage from moisture, dust and accidental contact. GOB is useful for screens that are frequently handled or installed where the LED surface needs extra protection.
COB LED Display Module
COB technology mounts LED chips directly onto the PCB and encapsulates the display surface. It supports fine-pitch indoor screens with a smooth finish, wide viewing angles, high contrast and improved protection for the LEDs.
Dual-Service LED Display Module
Designed for outdoor screens that require flexible maintenance access. The modules can be removed from either the front or rear, making them suitable for wall-mounted, embedded and other installations with limited rear service space.

What Is an LED Display Module?
An LED display module is the image-producing unit fitted inside an LED screen. It brings together the LED lamps, PCB, driver ICs, and power and data connections. Multiple modules are mounted in a cabinet or supporting frame to form the complete display surface.
Module specifications directly affect pixel density, resolution, brightness, refresh rate, color consistency and maintenance. For a new screen or replacement project, the module must match the cabinet layout, power supply, receiving card and control system.
LED Display Module Sizes and Pixel Pitch Options
Choose Pixel Pitch by Viewing Distance
A smaller pixel pitch provides higher pixel density and is better suited to detailed content viewed at close range. Larger pixel pitches are commonly used for larger screens viewed from farther away. Choose the pitch after considering viewing distance, screen size, content detail and budget.
Match the Module to the Cabinet
The module dimensions and resolution must match the cabinet layout. Mounting holes, power and data connectors, and scan configuration must also be compatible, especially when sourcing replacement modules for an existing LED screen.
Custom LED Module Sizes and Shapes
If a standard module size does not suit the project, HMTdisplay can evaluate custom dimensions, pixel pitches or shapes. For curved and other non-standard displays, the bend radius, resolution, installation method and order quantity should be confirmed before production.
Important: Not every pixel pitch is available for every module size or protection option. Check the relevant product table first, then confirm the final configuration with HMTdisplay.

How to Choose the Right LED Display Module
Choosing the right LED display module requires more than comparing pixel pitch or brightness. The installation environment, viewing distance, cabinet size, maintenance access and control system should all be reviewed before confirming the final specification.
| Selection Factor | What to Confirm | Why It Matters |
|---|---|---|
| Installation environment | Indoor or outdoor use, ambient light, temperature, moisture and exposure | Determines the required brightness, protection and thermal design |
| Viewing conditions | Closest viewing distance, total screen size and content detail | Helps identify a practical pixel pitch and native resolution |
| Module and cabinet | Module dimensions, mounting points, cabinet layout and finished ratio | Prevents mechanical gaps and incompatible screen dimensions |
| Electrical compatibility | Voltage, scan mode, driver IC, connectors, receiving card and data mapping | Essential for replacement modules and stable system operation |
| Maintenance access | Front service, rear service or access from both sides | Affects the structure, installation depth and future servicing |
| Visual performance | Brightness, refresh rate, grayscale, contrast and color uniformity | Ensures the screen suits live viewing, video playback and camera use |
LED Display Module Production and Quality Control
Reliable screen performance depends on consistent component quality, controlled assembly and batch testing. Every LED display module batch is checked from component selection through aging and final configuration before shipment.
Component Selection and Assembly
LEDs, PCBs, driver ICs and connectors are selected to match the required pixel pitch, brightness and refresh rate. Soldering, component placement and module flatness are checked during assembly to support stable operation and an even display surface.
72-Hour Aging Test
The 72-hour process includes 48 hours of white-balance testing and 24 hours of video playback. It helps identify defective pixels, unstable components, color variation and other visible issues before the batch is released.
Configuration Check Before Delivery
Before packing, the module model, pixel pitch, resolution and batch information are checked against the order. Matching data cables, 5 V power cables and project documentation are prepared for the selected configuration.

LED Display Module Applications
Module requirements change with the viewing distance, operating environment, screen shape and maintenance needs. HMTdisplay offers different LED display module options for indoor commercial spaces, outdoor advertising and creative installations.
Retail, Meeting Rooms and Control Rooms
Indoor SMD and COB modules suit locations where content is viewed at close range. They can be used for retail promotions, meeting room displays, studios and control rooms, with the pixel pitch selected according to viewing distance and content detail.
Outdoor Advertising and Public Information
Outdoor and dual-service modules are designed for fixed advertising screens, commercial buildings and public information displays. Brightness, protection level and maintenance access should be selected according to sunlight, weather exposure and site conditions.
Exhibitions and Creative Displays
Flexible modules can follow columns, arcs and other curved surfaces, while GOB coating provides additional protection for the exposed LED surface. These options suit exhibition features, branded installations and screens that are set up or handled frequently.

LED Display Module FAQs
These FAQs cover the main technical and purchasing details to confirm before choosing or ordering LED display modules.
What is the difference between an LED display module and an LED display cabinet?
An LED display module forms part of the active image surface and contains the LEDs, PCB, driver ICs and connectors. A cabinet holds multiple modules together with power supplies, receiving cards and internal wiring.
Can I use any LED display module to replace a damaged one?
No. The replacement must match the original module size, pixel pitch, resolution, voltage, scan mode, driver IC and data connection. Modules from different production batches may also show visible color differences, so batch matching and calibration should be checked.
How do I choose between indoor and outdoor LED modules?
Indoor modules are generally designed for closer viewing and lower ambient brightness. Outdoor modules require higher brightness and suitable weather protection. Confirm the required IP rating for the complete display, not only the module surface.
What is the difference between GOB and COB modules?
GOB adds a clear resin layer over the surface of an assembled SMD module for additional protection. COB mounts LED chips directly onto the PCB and encapsulates the entire display surface. The right choice depends on pixel pitch, surface protection, image quality, maintenance method and budget.
Can HMTdisplay make a custom LED module size?
Yes. HMTdisplay can evaluate custom dimensions, pixel pitches and shapes when standard modules do not fit the project. Feasibility depends on the required resolution, PCB design, supporting structure, bend radius where applicable and order quantity.
What information is needed for an accurate quotation?
Provide the installation environment, total screen dimensions, preferred pixel pitch, viewing distance, module size if known, required quantity and maintenance method. For replacement projects, send clear photos of the front and back of the original module together with its label and parameter file.
